Is ChatCut a good CapCut alternative?

Yes, if you edit on a computer and want an AI agent to do the editing: you describe the video and ChatCut cuts, captions and adds graphics on a timeline you can adjust. If you mostly edit on your phone with trending templates, CapCut is still the better fit.

Can ChatCut open or export CapCut projects?

ChatCut Desktop exports editable CapCut and Jianying drafts, so you can start an edit in ChatCut and finish it in CapCut. It does not import CapCut project files.

Does ChatCut have a phone app?

No. ChatCut runs on Mac, Windows and in a desktop browser. CapCut has iOS and Android apps.

Is ChatCut free?

Yes. The Free plan includes the editor, uploads, transcription, captions and standard exports. AI generation and the built-in agent use credits, and AI video generation needs a paid plan.

Can I use ChatCut from Claude Code or Codex?

Yes. The ChatCut plugin runs in Claude Code and the Codex app, and ChatCut Desktop connects Claude Code, Codex and other agents through a local MCP server. Your agent edits the real timeline, which you can keep adjusting by hand.

How the plugin works

Can I finish a ChatCut edit in another editor?

Yes. ChatCut exports XML timelines for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, and ChatCut Desktop also exports editable CapCut drafts. It does not export Final Cut Pro XML (FCPXML).
