Characters and Products

View as Markdown

Characters and Products are reusable items you save to your account. A Character is a person you cast again and again, with photos, a description, and a voice. A Product is something you sell, with photos, a description, a page link, and optional reference clips. Once saved, you can use either one in any project instead of uploading and describing it every time.

You manage them in ChatCut Desktop. The Agent in Desktop can read and save them, and so can a Claude Code or Codex agent connected to Desktop through the Agent Plugin.

Note: This page is about the account-level My Assets page in ChatCut Desktop. It is not the project media pool of the same name. For uploaded clips, Bins, and downloads in a project, see My Assets: Media and Video Downloads.

When should I use a Character or a Product?

Use a Character when the same person should appear in several videos. Examples are a founder, a host, or a made-up spokesperson. Keep their look consistent without searching for the photo each time.

Use a Product when you make several ads or selling videos for one item. The Agent can reuse the product’s photos as references and write scripts from the facts you saved.

If a person or product appears in only one video, a normal attachment or @ reference is enough. See Generation References.

What can I save?

Open My Assets from the Desktop home sidebar. It has four tabs: Design styles, Characters, Products, and Voices. Your changes save automatically. The detail page shows Saving…, then Saved.

A Character

Select New character, then fill in:

  • Character description. Looks, outfit, and personality the Agent should keep consistent.
  • Character images. Up to 9 images, each 20 MB or smaller. The first one is marked Main. Make it a clear, front-facing photo of one person. Select Set as main on another image to change it. Add a short note under each image, such as its angle or scene.
  • Character voice. Choose a voice from the voice library, or select Clone Voice. See Voice Library.

A Product

Select Create product, then fill in:

  • Product description. Selling points, specs, and how the product must look.
  • Product link. Paste the product’s page link.
  • Product photos. Up to 9 photos per product in My Assets, each 20 MB or smaller. The first one is marked Main. Put a clean front shot first. Add a note such as its angle or scene.
  • Voice reference. Up to 3 audio clips, MP3 or WAV, 2 to 30 seconds, up to 15 MB each.
  • Video reference. Up to 3 video clips, 2 to 15 seconds, up to 50 MB each. Use them to show how the product should sound or move.

The Agent can also fill optional fields that you do not edit in My Assets: category, price, audience, specs, selling points, and an appearance note. The appearance note lists details that must stay exact, such as label text, logo position, or colors.

Manage items

Right-click or open the item menu to Rename, Duplicate, Change cover, Use default cover, or Delete. Deleting cannot be undone.

How do I use them in a project?

You have three ways to bring an item into a chat.

  1. From the composer. Select + below the Agent message field, then My Assets. Open Characters or Products and select Use on a card. The item is added to your message as an @ reference.
  2. From the My Assets page. Open an item and select Use in chat. If no project is open, the button reads Create a project with it.
  3. By name. Say “my character” or “my product”, or use the item’s name. The Agent also sees a list of what you saved.

Selecting an item does not start any generation. Send the message with your request.

What does the Agent do with them?

A Character is used in two ways, chosen by what the shot needs.

  • Generated shots. For acting, movement, or changing scenes, the Agent passes the Character’s photos to image or video generation as references, with the main image first. It keeps the description in the prompt so the person stays consistent. Clips from video generation are usually short, around 5 to 15 seconds. See AI Video Generation.
  • Presenting to camera. For a script read to the camera at any length, the Agent makes an avatar video that speaks with the Character’s voice. The first time, ChatCut prepares a look for presenting from the main image. It can show a credit cost and ask you to confirm you have the right to use the person’s likeness. A Character without a voice needs one chosen first. Custom presenter generation needs a paid plan. See AI Avatars / Digital Humans and Free and Pro.

If your request could go either way, the Agent asks which you want. One video can use both.

A Product feeds ads and selling videos. The Agent passes the saved photos, front shot first, as generation references. It sends the saved reference clips when a shot needs that sound or motion and the model accepts them. It writes scripts only from what you saved, starting with the description, then selling points, price, and specs, and does not invent claims, prices, or ingredients.

Let the Agent save for you

If you hand over a product page, a photo of a person, or a product you sell, the Agent can offer to save it. It saves only after you agree and tells you in one sentence what was saved. To create a Character it needs a photo. A product page link works as a starting point. The Agent can read it and fill the product in; see Product and Website Links.

Prompts you can copy

Prompt

Save this photo as a character named Mia: early 30s, short dark hair, navy blazer, calm and friendly. Use the voice I picked earlier. Then confirm what you saved.

Prompt

Use my character Mia to read this script to camera as a 9:16 video: [paste script]. Use her saved voice.

Prompt

Make a 15-second 9:16 ad for my product Citrus Bottle. Use its saved photos as references, keep the label text exact, and write the script only from the saved description and selling points. Show me the script first.

What are the limits and tips?

  • Use sharp, single-person photos. A blurry or group photo gives a weaker look for presenting to camera. Presenting needs a JPG or PNG main image.
  • Change the main image on purpose. If you change the main image, the next presentation builds a new look from it. If preparing the look fails, My Assets says so, and you can ask the Agent to try again.
  • Delete frees a presenter slot. Deleting a Character also deletes its look for presenting.
  • Check the credit estimate. Generation and presenting use credits. See Credits and Generation Confirmations.
  • Get permission. Use only people whose likeness and voice you have the right to use.
  • Sign-in required. Items belong to your account.
